Greetings and salutations,
This is the Tales of Bris’Talamh, my new blog and personal project for the next several weeks. This blog is a personal challenge to express myself creatively in a public setting. Here I will be constructing a full works right up of Bris’Talamh, a complete Campaign Setting for 5th Edition Dungeon and Dragons. The Idea behind this is to provide open source content for Dungeon Masters in a pre-constructed setting that they can either modify or use as they please.
What is Bris’Talamh?
Bris’Talamh is the world, or rather, a world which I have constructed. Much like The Forgotten Realms or The Dragonlance Chronicles, it is self contained world but that doesn’t mean it has to be, you can use Bris’Talamh in any way you wish.
As a project, Bris’Talamh is a step forward for me as a creator. I am a long time Player, Dungeon Master, and Homebrewer for Dungeons and Dragons, and on a whole my creations (be they worlds, classes, races, or items) have been well received by the communities I have shared them with. But now I am taking a step forward and crafting something for the public eye so that I can receive more extensive feedback and hopefully inspire some future and current DM’s out in the world.
I’m posting this on Tumblr because as a whole I am most comfortable here to begin. It is a wide platform where I can appeal to a large base of people with many different ideas, viewpoints, and opinions. I am also posting here first because the Tumblr community has been influential in me beginning my journey into homebrewing. I want to extend thanks to @kor-artificer and @the-homebrewists for being some of the first blogs that introduced me to extensive homebrew writing. They have served to inspire me to great heights in my own personal journey through being a Dungeon Master and Homebrewer.
What will be posted on here?
The short answer to that question is: A great many things, we are constructing an entire world here after all. The longer answer includes everything from my personal artwork and constructions of in game content, to maps and monsters. The basic breakdown of what will be here though is: Maps, Homebrew Items, Homebrew Classes and Subclasses, Lore Posts, Homebrew Races, and Artwork related to all of these things.
How often will you be posting?
My hope is to be posting on average about once a week, either at the beginning or end of the weekend. I am a full-time graduate student, so often studies may interfere with my ability to create, but I will do my best to either be timely or post information on why there is no update. My first post, the general world map, is scheduled to go up on Friday.
Can I submit my own brews to be posted?
Most likely not. I certainly welcome ideas, feedback, and even inspiration. Further, I am completely open to having people send me their brews to look over through personal message. However, unless I feel something is really going to fit into the setting, I likely will not post it on this page. This doesn’t mean I don’t like the idea, I am simply trying to keep this blog self contained to be used and built on by others as they like.
A final word of thanks to everyone who has helped me feel like a successful Dungeon Master over the years, and whose support have helped boost my confidence in my creative abilities. Thanks to @andieb4650, @oppan-gandalf-style, and @ashquip, as well as many others who are not tagged in this for having been my players and companions over the past couple of years.
So, with all that said and out of the way: Welcome to Bris’Talamh
Glad to hear I could provide some inspiration! This sounds like it’s going to be a very cool project and I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye on it!
