Kolaghan, the Storm’s Fury (Art by Jaime Jones)
In her Fate Reforged form, Kolaghan is modelled on the same power level as the other dragonlords, CR 20. For her ability, which on her card grants +1/+0 to each attacking creature for each attacking dragon, I felt that extra lightning damage would work well for that and produce some cool flavour – a flight of dragons with their attacks bolstered by lightning, conducting this extra power to one another while in close proximity, in the same way lightning jumps between things it is striking. Her crackling flight legendary action gives her an ability tailored to letting her hop out of combat and stay in motion. This is complemented by her lightning-wreathed ability, inspired by the shocking grasp cantrip, making her especially hard to pin down. To balance this, she has the lowest total hit points of any of my designs for the elder dragons, both in her Fate Reforged form and her Elder form.
Dragonlord Kolaghan (Art by Jaime Jones)
In her elder dragon form, Kolaghan’s abilities allow her to unleash a devastating amount of lightning damage, both from her storm call legendary action, and her storm-wreathed ability. The latter provides an interesting tactical choice for players – they can circumvent taking extra lightning damage each turn by eschewing metal equipment, but doing so will put them at a disadvantage if they rely on metal armour or weapons! Kolaghan also has an additional way to output lightning damage with her conduction ability, which is another ability that the players will be able to work around and be completely safe from if they figure out how it works, though it’s going to be a thorn in the side of anyone rushing to another’s aid for healing!
